Ilima Shim in hard as nails
CBS’s Tough as Nails returned for its fourth season on January 4, 2023, and as always, 12 contestants tested their stamina, life skills, mental toughness, and strength, with the goal of winning the $200,000 grand prize. But unlike the other contestants, Ilima Shim wasn’t on the show for fame or money or even to prove herself. In fact, her girlfriend and her girlfriend’s mom secretly signed her up for the show, and she didn’t want to let them down.
According to Ilima, his girlfriend and her mother watched all those reality shows excessively. So, knowing that Ilima works in construction, they deemed her “more than capable of all challenges” and signed her. Three months later, they called back and Ilima, tempted to be the first Hawaiian girl on the show, accepted. “I feel like it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life,” she added.
Now, after the epic series on January 18, Ilima is still competition. In the last episode, after Larron botched one of the oil changes, his Savage Crew (including Ilima) had to use the overtime to clean it up. Unfortunately, later on, the Savage Crew made another mistake which resulted in oil cracking the bottom of one of the cars when they started it up.
In the end, Ilima and Aly were unable to complete the individual challenge on time. So they had to fight each other in the overtime challenge where they were tasked with fixing two flat tires on a truck. Fortunately, after a close fight, Ilima defeated Aly.
So by then, Aly Bala, Renee, and Synethia Bland were the three contestants who were sent home.

Yes, Ilima Shim was married to her ex-husband Brad Bina before 2012. The duo share two children – a son and a daughter, aged 5 and 10 respectively in 2023.

Ilima wedge work
Ilima Shim is a construction worker. Instead of going to college and getting into debt, a week before graduation, Ella Ilima moved in with her cousin and got a job as a laborer at Advanced Building Systems landscaping company.
After 2 1/2 years of working for the company, building stone walls and performing other difficult tasks, he joined the hospitality business at the Four Seasons Resort Hualālai. In 2015, she decided to move to O’ahu to pursue her modeling career and continued to appear in the Hawai’i Tattoo Models calendars. That same year, she was even named Queen of the PIAE (Pacific Ink and Art Expo) and was asked to represent the Hawai’i Tattoo Expo.
She then had her second child, and in 2020 she found herself back in the hospitality industry, again working for the Four Seasons. Unfortunately, she lost her job after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. So she took up the construction job and things never looked better.
Did you know: Ilima was once in the spotlight in 2003 after earning a spot on the Big Island Interscholastic Federation All-Star team.
Ilim Shim’s family
Ilima Shim’s change to blue collar was a blessing not only for her but also for her family. He helps them with construction work and other practical things.
But then again, Ilima said that he always helped his family to prune trees and clear land and roads for the coffee harvest. In addition, she was always on the go and helped her mother to clean the apartments.
Some of her family members are Taylor Kaleilehua Kelekolio Alcaras (niece), Lehua Galieto (cousin), Koko N Boots Rivera-Kuahuia (cousin), and Rhona Babino (mother-in-law).
Trivia: When Ilima was 16 years old, her brother died in a car accident the same day her grandmother died.
