Wireless headphones are more popular than ever, and Apple’s AirPods and AirPods Pro lines offer the best wire-free buys you’ll find. Packed with powerful controllers and amplifiers, quick and easy iOS adjustments, and head-tracking glory like surround sound, there’s a lot to love about the glossy white buttons. But as with all consumer tech items, from time to time you might find a bug with your AirPods, or maybe you’re selling your original AirPods Pro to buy the latest model, the AirPods Pro 2.
Whether you’re having sound issues or need to remove AirPods from your Apple ecosystem, resetting your AirPods is a fairly simple task, and with iOS 16 last year, resetting them has become easier than ever. You can also check everything you need to know about iOS 17.
To help you reset your AirPods, we’ve put together this step-by-step guide to walk you through the process.

Put your AirPods in the charging case and wait
Step 1: Take the charging case and place your AirPods inside if you haven’t already. This also applies to AirPods Pro, where the reset instructions are the same.

Step 2: Close the case and wait 30 seconds to a minute. Apple advises doing this so that if one of your AirPods runs out of battery life completely, it can recharge a bit and be recognized by the case before the reset begins.
Step 3: If your case’s battery is low, it would be a good idea to charge it before attempting a reset. If the case does not charge, you will not be able to reset it correctly.
Activate and pair your AirPods
With iOS 16 last year, Apple introduced a dedicated tab for AirPods that you can find on the settings its iPhone app (described below), as well as custom surround sound for compatible AirPods products.
Step 1: Have the Apple device you use the AirPods with handy. Open the AirPods case so the Apple device can detect them, then pop in yours settings.
Step 2 – If you are using an iPhone running iOS 16, as long as you have paired your AirPods at least once, they will be dedicated AirPods tab that you can select, just below your Apple ID.
To perform a reset, simply select the tab and then tap on the blue one Yo emblem next to the name of your AirPods. then choose Forget about this device.
Step 3: If you’re using an iPhone that’s not already running iOS 16, the following steps will allow you to reset your AirPods.
IN settingsgo Bluetooth and find your connected AirPods. choose blue Yo button (More information) with them. Select the option to Forget about this device. Confirm the decision and when your AirPods are no longer connected, place the Apple device in another room and return to your AirPods.
Note: If your AirPods/AirPods Pro are experiencing basic audio issues such as no sound, please stop here. try to go back to settings and manually reconnect your AirPods. Sometimes this can fix minor issues and you won’t have to worry about a hard reset.

Step 1: Keep the AirPods case cover open. Find an indicator light to keep an eye on. This light is usually located on the front of the case for most AirPod models, although the first generation has it on the inside of the case.
Step 2 – Now turn the back of your AirPods and find Place button. This is a small round button under the case cover, marked with a faint outline.
Step 3: Hold down Place button – you should be able to feel it when it is pressed. Hold down the button and watch the indicator light on the charging case, which should start blinking white. After about 15 seconds, you should see the light flash yellow, then turn white. When this happens, you can release the set button. Your AirPods are now reset.
Reconnect your AirPods
You can now take your Apple device and bring it close to your AirPods again so they can connect. Hold the lid of the AirPods charging case open and wait for your Apple device to restart the setup process (if your AirPods don’t appear, close the lid and reopen it). Complete the setup and pairing and you’re done! You’ll need to re-answer some basics about learning Siri and gesture controls, as well as fit testing for AirPods Pro, etc.
What if you don’t use an Apple device?
If you’re using something like the Android platform, the steps are the same. However, instead of setting up your AirPods automatically, you’ll need to go to the Bluetooth section of your Android device and manually search for and then pair your AirPods again.

Charge your AirPods Max for a minute, then look for the digital crown and noise control buttons, both on the same side of one ear cup. At the bottom of this phone you will find a status light. hold both digital crown and noise control buttons for about 15 seconds, until the light flashes yellow and then white again.
