The OnePlus 11 is the latest premium smartphone from OnePlus and it’s packed with generational upgrades in all areas. A new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, faster charging that charges the big 5000 mAh battery in around 30 minutes, and more efficient storage and RAM are just a few of the many upgrades we see in the flagship phone.
In terms of connectivity, OnePlus 11 gets a broader set of supported 5G frequency bands, Bluetooth 5.3, and theoretical support for Wi-Fi 7, which will be activated later after regional regulatory approvals. But there is a connectivity question that has been bothering a lot of people: Does the OnePlus 11 have an eSIM? We’ve yet to see OnePlus devices ship with eSIM support, including last year’s OnePlus 10T and OnePlus 10 Pro. eSIM is a nice feature and can be a great convenience, so is it available on OnePlus 11?

The OnePlus 11 is the first OnePlus phone to have an eSIM. It’s one of the least expected, yet timely and convenient additions to the OnePlus 11’s suite of connectivity features. eSIM (or Embedded SIM), as the name suggests, is a microchip that replaces a typical SIM card and can be activated in your phone by scanning a QR code or remotely through your carrier. They are intended to make it easy to switch providers or networks, especially when traveling to another country or location, and even allocate multiple connections on a single eSIM.
In addition to its suggested ease of use, an eSIM can also be a valuable tool that allows you to have multiple active connections on a phone, such as an iPhone, that only has one SIM slot. In addition, the eSIM is often encrypted, making it difficult for criminals to eavesdrop on your conversations or tamper with the SIM card.

OnePlus’ move to add eSIM support to its flagship device is apparently inspired by Apple’s move to get rid of the physical SIM slot on the iPhone 14. While OnePlus is moving away from releasing a smartphone without a physical SIM slot (a move that will likely draw similar criticism to what Apple received for removing the physical SIM cavity from iPhone 14 models sold in North America), adds additional support for anyone looking to dip into the mainstream.
One caveat about eSIM support for the OnePlus 11 is that only OnePlus 11 models sold in North America will have an eSIM, while units in other regions may skip it. We’re not sure if global models also have hardware eSIM with software disabled, but you won’t be able to use eSIM when OnePlus 11 launches if you’re outside of North America.
How to set up an eSIM on your OnePlus 11
To set up an eSIM on your OnePlus 11, you first need to check if you have a compatible model. Then contact your carrier to help you generate the eSIM code. Once you have the code in hand, go to settings application and then Mobile Network.
In this section you will see the option for eSIM. By tapping on the option, you will be redirected to another page where you need to enable eSIM on your device first.
So the chances of Add an eSIM and Restart appear on the same page. Tap Add an eSIM and then Following on the next page. You can then scan the QR code provided by your mobile operator to add the network. If you don’t have a QR code to scan, tap I need help to manually enter a long cryptic code.
Once this is done, you will be able to enjoy voice and Internet services on your OnePlus 11 even without inserting a physical SIM card. Please note that once the eSIM is activated, your old SIM will become useless forever (if you have transferred your phone number to the eSIM). If you need to switch back to a physical SIM or need to switch to another phone, you will need to contact your carrier again to get a new physical SIM or eSIM code issued to you.
