Last Chance U: Basketball on Netflix is about the East Los Angeles College (ELAC) basketball team. They used to be a team that struggled to win any game, and it wasn’t until the arrival of head coach John Mosley that the players showed the world exactly what they were made of.
Unfortunately, one of the players, Bryan Penn-Johnson who dominated the center, left ELAC after the 2021-22 season or after the program’s second season.
This basketball professional began his career as a student at Wasatch Academy, a high school in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. During that time, he helped his team to a 24-2 record in the 2017-2018 season. as older. This also placed them third in all of Utah.
In 2018, Bryan joined the University of Washington for the 2018-2019 session. But because his accomplishments were unheard of at the time, Bryan redshirted his freshman year! The following year, he was allowed to play six games as a Redshirt freshman during which he scored just five points against San Diego on November 24, 2019. Additionally, his performance during the January 25, 2020 game against Colorado saw Bryan to grab three rebounds and block two shots.
To further improve, in 2020, Bryan became a student at Louisiana State University (LSU) and joined the LSU Tigers. Unfortunately, COVID hit the world that year and he was only able to appear in five games as his team reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
This jeopardized Bryan’s position within the Division I circuit and he left LSU in 2021. So, only then did he join the East Los Angeles College basketball team as a center. According to Bryan, the decision to transfer to ELAC was to get more playing time and help him improve mentally and physically as a player. “ELAC helped me regain my confidence,” he added.

Where is Bryan Penn-Johnson today?
Today, as of December 2022, Bryan Penn-Johnson is enrolled at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). The university invited him to play for the Cal Poly Mustangs, offering him a full scholarship and his own room. How could he say he no to that?
His new high school is also part of the NCAA Division I circuit and has played 29 games so far (15 starts) for the 2022-23 season. and he averaged 9.5 points in all the games he started.
