Who is Dan Lafferty?
Dan Lafferty is one of six children born to Watson Leroy Lafferty and Claudine Jones Lafferty. His parents were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 6, 1940. Dan was born into a prominent Mormon family in Utah with strong morals.
His father was born in Raymond, Alberta, Canada and later moved to Utah. Watson worked as a chiropractor, but was also a strict disciplinarian who occasionally directed his silent anger at his wife and his pets. He killed the family dog with a baseball bat after an argument with his wife. His father sowed the seeds of paranoia, rebellion, and fanaticism. He instilled in his children skepticism about traditional medicine and the federal government.
He died on September 10, 1983 at the age of 68 from diabetes.
Allen’s mother, Claudine, was the tenth of 11 children born to Calvin Sparks and Christina Elizabeth Peterson Jones in Salt Lake City, Utah. She worked as an esthetician for over 70 years and made many lifelong friendships.
Claudine served the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Junior Sunday School coordinator, Relief Society president, and many other roles, including secretary in the Young Women presidency in her ward at the age of 84 years old and in the Relief Society presidency when he was 90 years old. . .
Claudine died on January 28, 2016 at the age of 96. At the time of her death, she had 60 grandchildren, 156 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Dan and Ron grew close. They were known for their short tempers and willingness to help each other out in a fight. He protested that the main Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah rejected polygamy more than a century ago, but some branches of the church continue to practice it and call themselves “fundamentalist Mormons.”
The two brothers followed in their father’s footsteps. Instead of buying baby food, Dan chewed the food into a pulp and then spat it out into his children’s mouths. He later refused to pay taxes or obey traffic laws, believing himself above human laws.
Dan was against it, and his brother Allen Lafferty married his sister-in-law Brenda, who was raised in a traditional Utah family. Dan and Ron disapproved of Allen’s marriage to Brenda from the start.
In 1982, the LDS Church excommunicated Dan for trying to marry their 14-year-old stepdaughter. Around the same time, Dan and Ron began spending more time together, who believed that the main church should never have abandoned polygamy. He eventually influenced his brother Ron to accept that belief.
Dan told his brothers that they were the true leaders of God’s church, and they believed him: they grew their beards and hair like the biblical prophets. The six children now spent more time with their brothers, insulting the LDS Church and the US government, than with their wives and children.
Dan then joined an outlaw polygamous cult known as the ‘School of Prophets’ and abandoned his clean-shaven, groomed appearance in favor of long hair and an unruly beard.
After Ron’s divorce and Brenda’s refusal to allow Allen to join the cult they were enraged and on July 24, 1984, Dan and Ron set out to fulfill the revelation that Ron had written, as she believed that he was the Voice of God. Dan, like the hand of God, killed her sister-in-law Brenda and her little daughter Erica by slitting their throats after beating Brenda unconscious, wrapping a vacuum cable around her neck until she passed out

Dan proudly said, “I held Brenda’s hair up and did it pretty much like they do in the scriptures. Then I went into Erica’s room. I talked to her for a minute and said, ‘I’m not sure why I should do this, but I guess God wants you home.'”
“I like to think that she didn’t suffer,” he says. “She Probably should get more sympathy than she gets. But I don’t allow it.”
Dan doesn’t think he’s going to die in prison; he believes that the walls will fall and that he will appear as the biblical prophet Elijah, announcing the second coming of Christ. “I’m not comfortable saying I know I’m Elijah,” he says. “But I’d be very surprised if he didn’t.”
While in the Utah County jail, Ron tried to kill Dan when they were first arrested, for which Dan labeled his brother a “son of the devil”.
“You could say I’m patiently waiting to see if I’m Elijah,” Dan said, shackles tightening around his wrists. “Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s all just a nice illusion.”
He is still alive at the Draper facility and has been sentenced to life in prison.
Dan Lafferty’s Wife
Dan Lafferty married his wife Matilda, whom he met when he came to Scotland on a mission trip. Apparently they got married in their country. Matilda was a divorced mother of two daughters who agreed with Dan that God wanted her to marry him and move to the United States.
As noted, Dan planned to marry Matilda’s eldest daughter from a previous marriage, but abandoned the plan and married a Romanian immigrant named Ann Randak, who tended some of Robert Redford’s horses on a ranch along Spanish Fork Canyon in the mountains east of Dream. Mine.

Every morning, Dan, Matilda, and the older kids would get up before dawn to prepare and wrap stacks of “all-natural” vegetarian sandwiches, which Dan would then sell to the other chiropractic students at lunch.
However, the Board of Health closed the site for non-compliance. They claimed that Dan needed a license and did not pay the necessary taxes. He later trained as a chiropractor and began working in the family business.

Dan Lafferty’s daughter, Rebecca Lafferty, has spoken publicly about the crime committed by her father and uncle. As she reached adulthood, Rebecca realized that she had to stop owning her father’s crimes. The day her father and her uncle committed the murder, Rebecca was seven years old.
Police were pounding on the door of the Salem, Utah, home where she lived with her mother, who had recently divorced Dan, and four younger siblings. “It was late at night and my mom looked scared,” says Rebecca, now 44. “She said, ‘Hurry up, she’s taking some clothes and putting them in a bag.'” I remember just messing around, like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then we went in a police car to another city, where we stayed with one of my mother’s friends.”
Rebecca decided that in order to heal, she had to get over her feelings for her father. Before reading Jon Krakauer’s 2003 book. Under Heaven’s Banner: A Story of Violent Faith, she only knew the bare outlines of the crime. As she read, she says: “I couldn’t breathe. be a mother [of three children], [I was] Thinking of my little baby, thinking of Brenda wanting to protect her baby.”
When Rebecca was younger, everyone knew who she was. She became the daughter of a “baby killer”, as a high school classmate called her one day. “I got up and went to the back of the bus and I was really freaking out on this girl,” Rebecca shared with Marie Claire. “I remember hitting her and getting mad.”
She added: “I was so tired of all the pain, pain, shame and everything that I was carrying, so I took it out on that poor girl.”
