Michael Abbott met Jinkx Monsoon at Kiki’s, a club in Manchester, England, in March 2019 while working as a bartender. And it was a fateful encounter!
At the time, the Drag Race star was planning to date another drag queen friend of hers. But she “ghosts” them. So, going out alone, Jinkx found a friend in a bartender (Michael) who had never heard of Jinkx or seen Drag Race.
So after work, the two went to hang out at Jinkx’s hotel room, where they stayed up all night talking. The next day, the duo spent the entire next day flipping the TV channels, getting to know each other better. Plus, Michael serenaded reality stars with what was on TV, and they were impressed with his ability to play by ear.
A few days later, the two were already in love, holding hands on the streets of England and singing at the top of their lungs. Unfortunately, Jinkx’s tour ended and on their last night together, after hanging out in front of the Glamorous Birmingham bar, they decided to have a long distance relationship.
Months passed, everything was going great, and then the 2020 pandemic hit. “We Skyped, FaceTimed, texted nonstop,” Jinkx recalled.
Finally, after getting approval for a 90-day trip to the United States, Michael got engaged to Jinkx in October 2020. And a month before Michael’s trip ended, the two touched on the concept of engagement without ownership. And on January 6, 2021, the lovebirds held a small ceremony at home with the testimony of their friends and family via video call.
Their wedding, which took place in the living room of Jinkx’s home in Portland, Oregon, was officiated by comedian Deven Green.
