As reported, the partnership between Theranos and Walgreens began when Dr. Jay met Elizabeth of Theranos by chance at a health technology conference. Walgreens has created a successful in-store vaccination model. They wanted to invest more in the medical laboratory business.

So, without any verification, Walgreens went ahead and announced the deal in 2013. They set up Theranos test centers in Arizona and California. But the tests were never done on the Theranos machine. In June 2016, Walgreens ended the partnership.
