Carol Alfrod first came to attention after being seen on surveillance footage from 2016 as the alleged target of Pam Hupp in her plot to frame Russa Faria. Pam drove to O’Fallon, Missouri, where she found Carol.
“I sat there and listened to (St. Charles County District Attorney) Tim Lohmar tell me his version of how he thinks he should have died that day, speaking of leaving you numb from the neck down, it’s hard.” She said. “You know, you make jokes about it, whatever, but you sit there and think, she wanted to kill me.”
Pam greeted Carol and thought she must be new to the neighborhood. Then Pam asked him “Are you babysitting?” and she offered to win him up to a thousand dollars if she would do an emergency segment for “Dateline” with Pam. However, she prohibited the entry of keys, cigarettes, mobile phones and even purses because the producer does not like clutter.
Carol walked in with her dog and grabbed two knives, a folding razor and a paring knife.
A suspicious Pam asked if Carol had cameras in her house. She confirmed that she had a camera and a knife in her pocket and that she needed to call 911.
Russ and Carol were strangers then. Russ had just been released from prison after being wrongfully convicted of murdering his wife Betsy Faria in 2011. When the question arose of whether Pam would be charged with Betsy’s murder, he planned to frame Russ for another murder. Pam tried to lure Carol before taking the life of her second victim, Louis Gumpenberger, but Carol tricked her.
