There are many agreements between India and USA and one of them is “Ship Maintenance and Repair”. The US Navy has signed a Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA) with the Larsen and Toubro shipyards in Kattupalli, south of Chennai. The United States is eager to finalize such arrangements with Goa Shipyard and Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai.
As part of these agreements, ships of the United States Navy may be docked for repair and maintenance at these shipyards.
The importance of the ship repair contract
The ship master repair agreement is an important cornerstone of the defense industry relationship between the United States and India. The two countries are engaged in negotiations on a Supply Security Agreement and a Mutual Defense Procurement Agreement. This will allow the delivery of defense goods in the event of unforeseen problems in the supply chain.
Both involve the storage of goods in Indian facilities. It also includes expanding the base of defense suppliers and manufacturers required by the United States to include Indian companies.
