Tiger Woods Is'Recovering' After Follow-Up Strategies on Leg Injuries Related to Car Crash

Under repair. Tiger Woods is on the road to recovery after undergoing more procedures related to an accident he was involved in earlier this week.

According to a statement released through the professional golfer’s Twitter account, he was transferred to another medical center for additional treatment on the morning of Thursday, February 25.

“Tiger moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and received further studies on his injuries this morning. The study was vigorous and he is currently on the mend and in good spirits,” the 45-year-old said in a statement. “Tiger and his family would like to thank you for the wonderful support and messages you have received over the past few days. We will not have any further updates at this time.”

Woods was treated for his injuries at UCLA Medical Center before being transferred. The California native’s group released a statement revealing that he sustained injuries to both hands but was “alert, responsive and recovering in his hospital room.” He and his group sent messages of appreciation to doctors, paramedics and first responders.

“As previously reported, Tiger was involved in a car accident this morning in California. He underwent lengthy surgery on his lower leg and ankle after being taken to the hospital.”

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Medical Director and Acting Executive Director Dr. Anish Mahajan released a statement detailing the extent of Woods’ injuries and the treatment he received.

“Mr. Woods sustained significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity, which were treated during emergency surgery by orthopedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a premier trauma center,” it said. “Comminuted open fractures involving both the upper and lower tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia. Additional injuries to the foot and ankle bones were covered with a combination of screws and pins. Trauma to the muscle and soft tissue of this leg required surgical removal of this muscle sheath to reduce pressure due to swelling.”

The five-time Masters winner was taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning after his SUV struck a median and cut into oncoming traffic. The car hit the control panel and flipped several times before coming to a stop. Authorities revealed that Woods had to be removed from the car with an ax and other means. Sheriff’s Deputy Carlos Gonzales said at a news conference Tuesday that the athlete appeared “clear and calm” at the time.

Sheriff Alex Villaneuva told reporters that Woods’ car was traveling at a “relatively higher speed than normal” when the incident occurred.
