Meet Matthew Hutchins, Husband of Rust Cinematographer Halyne Hutchins
Matthew Hutchins married the love of his life, Halyna Hutchins, in June 2005 in the Ukraine. To commemorate her wedding, Halyna was escorted down the aisle by her father in her navy blue uniform. And to symbolize prosperity, Matthew was given the traditional Ukrainian Karaway bread.
The enamored doves had a son named Andros Hutchins seven years later. And all was well until October 21, 2021, when a revolver bullet killed Matthew’s wife on the set of Rust.
After fronting the news, Andros, the duo’s then-nine-year-old boy, was unable to utter a word for two days. Although Matthew managed to get a few words out of him, the boy was devastated. “This tragedy has destroyed a beautiful and perfect family; everyone who knows them is devastated.” Anatoly, Halyna’s father shared.
According to director Adam Egypt Mortimer, “Halyna should have been a very famous and successful cinematographer.” He even thought of convincing her of “something”. Besides, with such a supportive husband, Halyna was on her way to the top. It’s sad to see another cinematographer living half asleep.
What did Matthew Hutchins say about Alec Baldwin?
Early on, Matthew Hutchins said that Alec Baldwin was “very supportive.” The two even sat down for breakfast with their 9-year-old son Andros in October 2021 at La Posada in Santa Fe, New Mexico.”
“I don’t think there are words to describe the situation,” Matthew told an insider after meeting the three-time Emmy Award-winning actor.
However, fast-forwarding to February 2022, Matthew couldn’t help but overhear Alec claim that he wasn’t responsible for the fatal on-set shooting, which resulted in the death of his wife.
“Looking at him, I felt so angry,” Matthew said.
Enraged, Matthew wasn’t letting Alec talk about his wife’s death “so publicly” with a hint of guilt. Although various industry standards were not practiced and there were multiple parties involved, Matthew believes that Alec was one of them.
“The idea that the person holding the gun and causing it to go off is not accountable to me is absurd,” Matthew explained.
Right in January 2022, Matthew filed a complaint on behalf of himself and his 9-year-old son, alleging that Alec “recklessly shot and killed Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.”
But the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office has yet to charge anyone in the case.
