Jesse Lopez joined the gang as a teenager. But at one point he “changed.” He then got his GED in juvenile detention, went to UC Berkeley, went to Duke, and now has a Ph.D. in political science.
“It wasn’t easy to go from being in a youth home to getting a PhD at Duke. There are a lot of days when you doubt yourself. I think I’ve been incredibly lucky in my life, but I’ve also been able to turn that luck around and do something with her,” Jesse recalled.
That’s exactly why she came to Survivor 43: to show the world that there is hope for everyone, and to set an example for her children.
So what is your game plan? Well, Jesse described himself as “conscientious, ambitious and indomitable.” He bragged about the ease with which he made friends and that he would use that to his advantage. But having said that, he also admitted that he was looking for a partnership with someone trustworthy, who is not only willing to talk strategy and share ideas, but is “thoughtful” about it.
He generally identifies as a mix of former contestants Jeremy and Tony. Motivated by his family, he would do anything to stay in the game. “If you show me the impossible, I’ll get over it,” he said.
All excited for the series premiere, Jesse took to his IG to say, “I still can’t believe this is real life! I’m not taking any of this for granted, find out what I do with this opportunity when @survivorcbs debuts on September 21.”

Jesse Lopez was 30 years old when he appeared on Survivor 43 in 2022.

Jesse Lopez has not revealed his biological family. However, he bragged about his adoptive mother, Nancy Brown (former aunt), who took him in because he was about to be placed in foster care.
Nancy’s own daughter, Veronica, was 15 at the time.
So after Jesse was adopted, he and Veronica became first cousins.
Sadly, Jesse’s mother passed away in 2020.
Remembering his mother on her birthday (i.e. April 26) in 2021, Jesse said that she always begged him to “stop worrying so much.” She was the type of person who lived each moment as she pleased, and she was quite comfortable giving the middle finger to anyone who had a say in the matter. “Everything I have now can be traced back to a selfless decision she made, and I’m going to make sure I enjoy every moment I have with what she gave me,” Jesse added.
Trivia: Jesse’s other aunt, Sandy, also helped with the adoption process.

Jesse Lopez loves his wife who is probably called Rebecca (Roberts) Anne Lopez to the moon. He often featured her and her two children of hers on her IG.
Unfortunately, we don’t know much about her except her date of birth i.e. October 1990.

In 2022, Jesse Lopez worked as a “Survey Methodologist” at RTI International for over a year and a half. There, he used his behavioral and attitudinal experience to lead and contribute to projects that use “surveys, focus groups, qualitative interviews, third-party data, and experimental designs to conduct program evaluations and usability evaluations.”
Prior to that, Jesse worked for 8 months as an “Assistant Panel Manager” at the Pew Research Center.
