The California company unveiled two new radio stations this Tuesday, August 18, and renamed them Beats 1 Apple’s Music 1.
It’s not about leaving Spotify, and Sonos is expanding its non-radio responsive offering. Apple decided to repeat its competitors by announcing this Tuesday, August 18, two new radio stations and a new name for its station that has been broadcasting live since 2015, 24h/24 and 7d/7, Beats 1. Now, this radio station radio, which is one of the most listened to radio stations in the world, is featured in a music app called Apple Music 1 (pronounced “One”). Why this name change*? To better integrate with subscription music streaming service Apple Music, which offers a catalog of 60 million shares and has “tens of millions of subscribers in 167 different countries,” Apple says.

Apple took the opportunity to introduce two new radio stations in addition to the main station launched in the last five years: Apple’s Music Hits and Apple Music Country. The latter is meant for fans of country music and that Music Hits airs hits from the ’80s, ’90s, and ’00s. Now you can listen to the Backstreet Boys, Ciara, Alanis Morissette, Snoop Dogg, and even Shania Twain. Without any kind of advertising, the music from these three radio stations is interspersed with programs and debates by renowned presenters.

On Apple Music 1, Frank Ocean, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Elton John, Lil Wayne… have problems or regularly intervene on the air. They also evoke their own music and news to discover new artists or new up-and-coming styles. “Apple Music Radio offers an unprecedented global platform for artists of all stripes who want to talk, create and share music with their fans,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple Music’s senior vice president of Beats and international content.
With recording studios in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, and London, Apple Music 1 streams live non-stop, but also offers some repeat shows for added listening flexibility. Exclusively in English, these radio stations still target American tastes, especially with country music stations, but open up a bit more variety. Some Apple Music 1 shows are dedicated to Latin American music while others focus on the African scene. But right now there is no doubt that we can imagine a radio in French, or even a radio dedicated to French music. Maybe one day…
