Step 8 – If you want your cover to not have a page number, you can go to your cover, select Format in the menu, then select Front page…

This menu includes a number of options, including the ability to set a specific amount title pages (such as those in the preface, table of contents, etc.) and where you want them. These pages will not count for numbering purposes.
