Online gaming site Rainbow Riches Casino created and shared a new take on the classic optical illusion.
The design is inspired by the Troxler effect, also called the Troxler fade.
It was discovered by the Swiss physician Paul Troxler in 1804, who discovered that the brain stops paying attention to visual scenes that do not change.
The effect is similar to when you put on your socks… at first you’re aware of them, but as the day progresses, you stop noticing, explains The Verge.
With the image so fuzzy and blurry, there is little for the eyes to focus on. And if you combine that with an intense look, the colors will fade from view.
When you look at a particular point, even for a short time, everything beyond that point fades away, essentially changing our perception of what’s really there.
For this specific version, when you look at the cross in the center of the image, the coin behind it slowly starts to disappear.
