Meet Nancy Oar, Mountain Men Tom Oar Wife! Age, Job

History Channel’s Mountain People wouldn’t be as wonderful if it weren’t for Tom Oar and his lovely wife Nancy Oar. The two have appeared on the show since 2012. And fast-forward to 2022, the elderly couple were still preparing for a harsh winter in the Yaak River Valley. Scroll down to find out all about Tom Oar’s wife, Nancy Oar.

Meet Mountain Men star Tom Oar’s wife Nancy Oar

Nancy Oar was an official cast member of Mountain Men alongside her husband Tom Oar. From the beginning, she and her husband survived the freezing weather in the Yaak River Valley, constantly surprising viewers with their innovative techniques.

Speaking of their skills, the duo made their home out of the simplest of means and the scantest of luxuries. And as for food, they found a way to survive on land, gathering for a living with their knowledge of a nearly forgotten trade: brain tanning.

However, Tom was mostly stuck up and basking in the sun, braving the harsh realities of the seasons and the woods. He honed his art to a level only a few before him had reached. And all thanks to his time of more than 40 years in the Yaak River Valley.

That! Nancy and Tom lived in Montana for over 4 decades. “There came a time in our lives when we realized most of the rodeo was over and we wanted to move to Montana and build a log home. So we bought a chainsaw in Illinois to build a house when we got here,” Tom recalled.

And it’s even more amazing that the duo survived without electricity or running water for their first 17 years.

They then moved to a more remote location about nine miles away to a 1,500-square-foot log home with electricity. It was in the Kootenai National Forest, in the northwest corner of Montana and the northeast corner of Idaho on the Canadian border.

The Yaak River flowed 70 feet below his property.

First of all, Tom worked as a rodeo rider and was good at his job. In fact, he was so good that in the early 1960s he rose through the ranks of the International Rodeo Association and established himself as a champion jockey.

But he knew he wouldn’t have the same energy forever. So after retiring in 1981, he and Nancy loaded up an old pickup truck and moved to Montana.

Together, the couple defied the odds, surviving the lurking danger, the taunts of isolation, and the bitter cold of Montana.

So when a representative from the film company found out, they reported it to the History Channel and they knew they had to film Nancy and Tom.
