How to use the hidden Nintendo Switch browser

Nintendo is unusually strict about how it wants you to use its devices. Even features built into the Switch, like Bluetooth, weren’t enabled until Nintendo wanted them to be. One thing Nintendo will probably never officially enable is a dedicated web browser, but that hasn’t stopped some savvy users from finding a solution by exploiting the hotspot feature.

To use the browser outside of the typical hotspot method, you must trick the console by manually entering the primary DNS address. Our instructions on how to use the Nintendo Switch Hidden Browser are based on SwitchBru, a free hosted DNS server that redirects your queries to Google’s public DNS servers. According to the service, your connection is encrypted.

However, keep in mind that you are connecting to a third-party service. SwitchBru claims that it does not collect information such as your IP address and browsing habits, but does offer a free service to store your favorite links and settings.

Use a web browser

Step 1: Tap or select System settings gear icon located on the home screen.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap or select Internet option on the next screen.

Step 3: Choose internet settingsOn the right.

Step 4 – Tap or select an Internet connection.

Step 5 – On the next screen, tap or select change settings.

Step 6 – Scroll down and tap or select DNS settings.

Step 7: Choose Manual in the popup window at the bottom.

Step 8 – Select your primary DNS, remove all zeros, and enter this address:

045.055.142.122

choose Alright or tap the “more” button to continue.

Step 9 – Tap or select Save button.

Step 10 – Tap or select Connect to this network on the next screen.

Step 11: The connection seems to fail, so registration is required. Touch or select Following.

Step 12 – The SwitchBru DNS home page now appears on your screen. This is the actual address that you can access on any device:

https://dns.switchbru.com

As shown below, you can touch or select Continue to Google button to load the main Google search page. You will also see a column on the left with six categories:

  • Google: Search the Internet.
  • Enter URL: Enter the address.
  • News: The latest news from SwitchBru.
  • Feedback – Complete the SwitchBru survey to provide feedback on the latest web browsing experience.
  • Helpful Links: Add custom links and access general and Switch-related links.
  • Settings: change the theme (black or white), manage notifications, disable ads, and more.

Disconnect web browser

Now that your primary DNS is finally redirected to SwitchBru, it will change to load the welcome screen every time you use that Internet connection. To restore your original settings and disable the web browser, see the instructions above from Step 1 to Step 5. Alternatively, once you get to the connection settings screen, follow these steps:

Step 1: Scroll down and then click or select DNS settings option. You will immediately see a page pop up open at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Press or select Automatic Choice.

Step 3: Press Save button. Once you’ve done that, click right away Alright to complete this step and complete the process successfully.

We think it’s worth mentioning that if you encounter connection issues while using Automatic configuration, you can apply these instructions to configure the primary and secondary DNS numbers using the manual method. For example, here are Google’s DNS addresses:

8.8.8.8 (primary)

8.8.4.4 (secondary)
