Kelly Anneken met the love of her life, Amy Schneider, while starring in Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew in 2004. Soon after, they fell in love, married, and moved to Oakland, CA for Kelly to pursue a career in standup comedy.
“We visited with some friends who attended Berkeley and fell in love with the Bay Area. So in 2009 we moved to Oakland, and I for one never want to leave,” Amy recalled that moment.
Fast forward to 2016, after Amy’s father passes away, she begins to reflect on her life and realizes that she is transgender. “I’m simplifying a process that’s been going on my whole life, and probably since 2011 or so, but 2016 was when I finally realized that I was living a lie and started to show the real me.” she said.
The Jeopardy star then spoke to his wife about his decision and the two parted ways by mutual consent in the same year. According to Kelly, they “still love and care” but have grown apart in “a few key ways.”
Kelly continued to be Amy’s biggest support. She even appeared alongside Amy after her transition. Plus, Kelly didn’t stop cheering for the Jeopardy star even years after her divorce.
In November 2021, Kelly even called for the Golden State Warriors to show some “solidarity with RT in the Bay Area before (Amy’s) third game of Jeopardy.”
