Diddy Slams The Grammys: ‘Black Music Has Never Been Respected By The Grammys’

American rapper and singer Sean John Combs, aka Diddy Diddy, wowed the Recording Academy, GRAMMY Awards ahead of the 2020 awards.Diddy condemned the Grammys: 'The Grammys never appreciated black music'

“There’s something I have to say to the Grammys, and I say it with love,” Diddy told the crowd. “Every year you kill us. I speak for all artists and executives: in the great words of Erykah Badu, ‘We are artists and we are sensitive to our shit.’ For most of us, this is all we have. This is our only hope.”

According to Diddy, “To tell you the truth, the Grammys never respected hip-hop. The Grammys have never respected black music.”

“So now, with this current situation, it’s not a revelation. This is happening, not just in music, but also in movies, in sports, all over the world. And for years we have allowed institutions that never had our best interests in mind to judge us and that stops now,” Diddy said.

He added: “I am officially starting the clock: you have 365 days to fix this shit. We need artists to take control, we need transparency, we need diversity. This is a room that has the power to [force] change to be made. They have to make changes for us: they are a non-profit organization that is supposed to protect the welfare of the music community. That’s what the mission statement says: they work for us.”

Diddy concluded, “We’re going to need all of us to pull this off. I’m here for the artist, so sign me up.”
