French privacy watchdog Cnil called on the government on Monday to address “several irregularities” in connection with the controversial StopCovid contact tracing app.

Among the irregularities, Cnil points out that the information provided to the users of the application “needs to be supplemented”, especially in relation to recaptcha (a mechanism to prevent “bots” from using the application).

The analysis of the impact on the protection of personal data is also “incomplete” for data retained for security purposes, especially for recaptcha, Cnil points out. Cnil also asks the government to declare the effectiveness of the application in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic.
