How to complete the Solved by the Bell quest in Hogwarts Legacy

Although you’re technically at Hogwarts to attend classes and study to be a true wizard or witch, that’s only a small part of what you actually do at Hogwarts. Hogwarts Legacy. In addition to the main quest and just exploring the magical world, there are tons of side quests you can take to gain XP, loot, and more. While some are simpler, many of these diversions are quite complex, especially in the types of puzzles they present you with. The Solved by the Bell mission is not only easy to miss, but even harder to solve. Here is a complete guide for this quest. Hogwarts Legacy.

How to get started Solved by the Bell

A map with musical notes at the bottom.

Before you can access this mission, you will need to unlock and obtain your own broom. Once you have it and are free to fly in the sky, you’ll need to travel all the way to the southern part of the map to Henrietta’s hideout in the Manor Cape region. It is a hidden area, so you will have to approach it to discover it if you have not been there yet.

When you arrive, make sure you’re ready for tough enemies. The Ashwinders in this area can be anywhere from level 30 to almost level 40, so don’t rush this quest if you’re not ready. When the area is clear, go down the stairs and enter the large door.

Settled through Bell Pass

The first room you walk into is a bit of a puzzle. The way forward is blocked, and in the room there are two platforms on the ground and a moving cube, but two will be needed. To get the second one, find an unlit brazier and use any fire spell to light it. This will rotate the column and reveal the other cube you need.

The simple solution is that you just need to use a spell like Accio to move the cube to the platform with the icicle symbol and cast Glacius on the cube. Once you’ve done that, you need to place another cube on another platform with a flame symbol on it and cast Fire. This will allow you to move on to the next area.

There will be a bit more fighting ahead, plus a moving bridge that you just need to cast Arrest Momentum on to cross safely. After another combat encounter, you will find a hidden passage on the right wall that contains a map with musical symbols. You can cast Revelio to help you see which wall you need to approach to find the secret area. Collecting the map is technically what starts the Solved by the Bell quest. Your quest will be updated at this point, but you will only be told that you need to “use the music map to find the treasure”, so you are on your own to not only find the location on the map, but also to solve the music puzzle.

Solved by solving the Bell puzzle

A wizard who shoots bells with magic.

Let’s get the easy part out of the way first. The location shown on the map that you need to go to is Clagmar Castle. This is located not too far east of Manor Cape, so fly or fast travel here. There are more Ashwinders here that you’ll need to take out, then you’ll need to find a tower with nine bells in two vertical columns. If you’re lost, Revelio casting will highlight them so you know which way to go.

As you can probably guess, the puzzle you are presented with is to guess the correct bells in the correct order based on the musical notes shown on the card. Of course, not everyone can read music, but luckily, each bell you play lights up the magic notes below the bell, so in theory you could force a solution by hitting each bell, marking what note it makes, and then binding to the map. Or you can just follow these steps for a much faster and simpler time.

This is the order in which you should hit the bells with your basic magic attack:

  • The lower bell on the right
  • The third bell from the top left.
  • Second bell from top left
  • The second bell from the top right.
  • Third bell from top left (again)
  • top hood left
  • top right hood
  • Second bell from top right (again)

Once you’ve reached them all, the bells will ring again in that order with a rhythm that, if you haven’t already picked it up, will be all too familiar to moviegoers. After the bell ends, a treasure chest will appear next to you. Open it to complete the task and collect your rewards. You will get the Treasure Seeker’s Long Coat, a type of cosmetic equipment that you can use to change the appearance of other equipment, 400 Galleons, and 180 XP.
