Damar Romeyelle Hamlin was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, United States, to African-American parents Mario and Nina.
Mario and Nina were high school sweethearts and gave birth to Damaro when Nina was a 16-year-old teenager.
It was the beginning of their young family. However, things could go better than expected.
The family faced financial difficulties and Mario Hamlin participated in street activities to make ends meet.
It was a bad idea, culminating in his capture and sentence to 3.5 years in prison while Damar was growing up.
This left his teenage mother, Nina, to look after her young son alone. She did what she could and took care of the family.
When Mario was released from prison, he and Nina started a daycare and office cleaning business.
They used the proceeds to raise Damar, and the young man lacked for almost nothing growing up.

With an eventual stable national lineup, the football safety progressed through the high school and college ranks and was selected in the 2021 NFL Draft.
It was a choice that validated everything his parents had gone through to raise him.

He was named first-team All-State and Class AAAA Defensive Player of the Year during his school days.
Coming out of Central Catholic, Damar was considered one of the best cornerbacks and was pursued by a number of prestigious college football programs.
He later enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh and joined the Pittsburgh Panthers college football team.

After the procedure, Damar stood up, taking two steps back before collapsing.
The incident occurred during the Buffalo Bills’ Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night football.

The team’s trainers and paramedics rushed over to the immobile Damar. They put him on a stretcher and took him out in an ambulance that entered the field.
Most of the players from both sides came out of the sideline and stood or knelt around Damar.
First aid personnel began CPR and used defibrillation on the soccer player on the field for 10 minutes.
After receiving oxygen, intubation, and an intravenous (IV) fluid, EMS transported him to the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center around 9:25 pm EST.
Damar is reportedly in critical condition after suffering a heart attack. After the collapse, a number of NFL players, teams, and fans were quick to offer their support and prayers on social media.
Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase, James Franklin and LeBron James were among those who sent their best wishes to Damar and his family.
Fans gathered outside the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center, where he was being held after he passed out. The lights at Paycor Stadium turn blue in honor of Damar.
