This week, Beyonce released her companion album, The Lion King: The Present, which she called a “love letter to Africa.”
One of the album’s many standout songs, “Brown Pores and Skin Woman,” features the vocals of Queen Bey’s 7-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
Guyanese rapper SAINt JHN and Nigerian singer WizKid also appear.
The empowering song praises brown-skinned women like Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Campbell and Kelly Rowland, and has impressed others to embrace their own melanin for its richness and sweetness.
Over the weekend, the #BrownSkinGirlChallenge hashtag went viral with Black women from around the world uploading photos of themselves feeling happy about their skin.
