Legendary pop band ‘taking a break to concentrate on solo careers’ – a year after reuniting for tour

LEGENDARY ’90s pop band Steps have announced that they will be “taking a break” from performing together.

The group will step away from the spotlight as a five-piece to focus on their own solo careers, according to band member Claire Richards.

Claire told The Mirror that Steps will pay tribute at an upcoming Brighton Pride concert before going their separate ways.

She told the Post: “Obviously we have Brighton Pride in August, but other than that, we’re resting.”

Added Claire: “Everyone is concentrating on individual things right now, which is good and it works for us when we do it because it means that when we get back together, we’re fresh again and we’re excited to get back on stage and we want to do it.”

The good news is that Claire insists that she and her bandmates, Ian “H” Watkins, Lisa Scott-Lee, Lee Latchford Evans and Faye Tozer, won’t be parting ways forever.

He added to The Mirror that he would “definitely be back”.

Steps formed in 1997 and have conquered the charts with a string of hits including 5, 6, 7, 8, Tragedy and One For Sorrow.

The band sold 22 million records worldwide before disbanding in 2001.

They met in 2011 and even filmed the meeting for a four-part Sky Living documentary series.

Since then, Steps has been in and out of the studio together, while also pursuing his own solo projects.

Last year, the band announced that they would reunite for a series of summer concerts to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

But they have already shown signs of taking a break.

In June, we revealed how qualified personal trainer Lee was ready to launch a workout based on the group’s biggest success.

He trademarked the name The 5,6,7,8 Method, as a nod to his 1997 debut single.

Claire is currently working on her second solo album, while Lisa reissued her Never Or Now album.

H has reinvented himself as a painter and exhibits his art in Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Faye returned to the stage, starring in a touring production of the musical 42nd Street.
