A 15-month-old Ohio boy ran out onto the highway where he was struck by a pickup truck while his 17-year-old caregiver was unaware he had left the home and later died of his injuries, state police said.
The toddler, identified as Wyatt Stoller, died at a hospital Saturday from injuries sustained when he was struck by a silver 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck shortly before 8 p.m. Friday on Eby Road in Milton Township, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) news release. news week on Monday.

OSHP’s Wooster Post was contacted about a “serious injury accident” in Milton Township, about 30 miles east of Akron, on Friday around 7:57 p.m., according to a news release.
The driver of the van, Brian Polen, 43, of Smithville, Ohio, was heading south on Eby Road from State Route 604 in the van when he struck the boy who was “standing in the road,” according to OSHP.
Sterling Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene, where Life Flight was “immediately called.” Stoller was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital where he died the next day. An investigation revealed that the boy left a nearby home and that his 17-year-old caregiver “did not know he was in the way” when he was struck, OSHP said.
The driver and his passenger were not injured, and the F-150 was towed from the scene of the accident, as standard procedure for an investigation, according to police.
Speed is not believed to be a factor at this time, Sgt. Robert Gable told OSHP Akron Beacon Journaladding that this could change as the investigation continues.
The 15-month-old’s obituary says Stoller leaves behind his parents, three siblings and grandparents, as well as dozens of aunts, uncles and cousins. The little boy loved farming with his father, especially riding with him on the tractor and walking with his mother in the garden.
“Wyatt was a ray of sunshine that lit up every room he walked into, always ready to turn heads, nod, and smile,” the obituary read. “His blond curls of his, his twinkling soft brown eyes and his magnetic personality captivated all of our hearts.”
A relative of the boy shared heartbreaking images on social media of Stoller’s parents and siblings saying goodbye to him at the hospital.
“Yesterday we stroked and kissed those tiny fingers and toes that were so painfully still,” a family member said in a Sunday Facebook post, adding: “now our little soul must go to Jesus before us.”
“The fifteen months we spent with Wyatt are incredibly precious and we wouldn’t be giving them up if we weren’t going through this pain right now,” the post read. “We are richer, fuller, deeper, and better for having loved and lost Wyatt than if we had never loved him.”
Funeral services for the young boy will be held Tuesday at Smithville Apostolic Christian Church in Sterling, and burial will be at Apostolic Cemetery in Rittman, according to the obituary.
