The precious moment a dog felt his new brother kick for the first time has melted many hearts online.
On July 8, Amy Holmes posted a video on her TikTok account (@amy.holmes_) showing the moment her Australian Kelpie felt an unexpected movement. As the dog lay next to her owner, Holmes from Australia rested the dog’s paw on her tummy and waited for the kick to occur.
The video has already been viewed more than 1.5 million times and received more than 191,000 likes in just a few days. As soon as the Australian kelpie felt the baby kick, she perked up her ears and looked at her owner saying that she “wasn’t sure”. The dog’s initial confusion quickly faded, as the owner admitted that she “didn’t go away [her] side” ever since. Holmes wrote on TikTok that “she’s going to be the best big sister ever.”

Most dogs analyze and experience the world around them through smell, as their famous sense of smell allows them to detect changes in their environment. The American Kennel Club (AKC) explains that dogs may notice the change in hormone levels that an owner experiences during pregnancy, although they may not fully understand what it means.
The animal will also notice physical and behavioral changes in its owner and, depending on the dog, it may take an interest in it, but it is not certain to understand the reasons for these changes. Some dogs may become protective of their owner during pregnancy, while others may fear the changes they see in their home.
Regardless of the dog’s reaction, the AKC suggests that owners help the dog transition and foster positive feelings toward the soon-to-be new family member.
After she felt the baby move for the first time, a montage of the footage shows the dog repeatedly placing its head on the baby’s bump. The Kelpie seems excited to welcome his new sibling and is already enjoying being around the baby.

The clip sparked a lot of reactions online, with many TikTok users flooding the comments section to share their feelings about the tender moment.
Among the hundreds of comments, one person wrote: “it’s amazing how they know.”
Another comment reads, “She said, that’s my best friend inside!”
Many TikTok users couldn’t help but point out how cute the dog is, with one commenter writing, “This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.”
