Lowes fired employee Donna Hansbrough, who had worked there for 13 years, after accusing her of violating store rules.

On June 25, 2023, a tragic incident occurred when three people robbed a Lowes store on Highway 21 South in Rincón. The items they stole were worth more than $2,000. According to reports from the Rincon Police Department, three people placed various items on a cart and were preparing to leave the store.

Soon, Donna Hansbrough tried to stop Takyah Berry by grabbing her shopping cart. After the 68-year-old woman grabbed the cart from her, Berry punched her about three times in the face. However, it was confirmed that she did not contact any suspects.

He suffered bruises and swelling to his right eye from the impact. Lowes reportedly fired Hansbrough after claiming he violated his policy by hijacking a shopping cart.

A GoFundMe fundraiser was started to help Donna Hansbrough find a new job after being laid off. The fundraising announcement read:

“Ms. Donna has not contacted anyone. One of the robbers punched Ms. Donna in the face 3 times, causing her eye to bruise, swell and turn black. The robbers were not caught.”

The fundraising announcement goes on to say:

“Lowes fired Ms. Donna because she tried to stop the robbery. They claim that Ms. Donna’s actions (grabbing the cart) were a violation of their policy and that Donna was fired as a result… If anything, I think we all thought Lowes owed her a raise and gave her her job back.”

Hansbrough received support on social media platforms, including Twitter.

After the news broke and hit the internet, Donna Hansbrough received an outpouring of support on social media platforms like Twitter, where users denounced Lowes and its policies. While some condemned the thieves and praised Donna’s efforts to make the right choice, others tweeted that Donna should be “rehired.”

@Lowes Rehire Donna Hansbrough, chumps.

[email protected] made the right legal call to fire Donna Hansbrough for her heroism. They followed politics to the nth degree. They want workers, not heroes. Of course, that is a cruel and inhuman response. Politics before people. Luckily we have a @HomeDepot in nearby Buford GA.

@Lowes Donna Hansbrough needs to be rehired. You just lost my job.

Law enforcement officials managed to arrest Jarmar Lawton, but the other two robbers were not caught. The two suspects who have not yet been caught are a niece and an uncle.

Authorities also urged the public to contact them if they have any information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of Takyah Berry and Joseph Berry.
