Meet Jennifer Cook, Love On The Spectrum US Relationship Coach

After the huge success of the Australian documentary series Love on the Spectrum, the franchise aired its first American version on May 18, 2022, consisting of six episodes.

Like the original, the American series also followed a group of adults on the autism spectrum who wanted to fall in love. So naturally, since they would need a lot of guidance, Jennifer Cook, who also has autism, joined the show to guide them ahead of her first big night.

According to Jennifer, she understood the feelings of each participant. That is why she has designed different methods individually to help bring out the best in them. For example, in the first episode, she got into an argument with Abbey as the two discussed her mutual interests. While she was in the last episode, she arranged a fake dinner for Subodh.

“I had my bag of tricks ready for whoever I was going to meet with,” Jennifer said, before explaining that “easy dialogue can be hard for people on the spectrum, and being able to switch perspectives and take turns can be really awkward.”

However, Jennifer isn’t there to fix things. She just wanted to offer some etiquette tips and help attendees find topics to discuss with her dates.

“No one tried to fix themselves. My role as a coach and occasional teacher was never to fix or change. And that was a big problem,” he explained.

So how did he get the show? Well, being an autistic person herself, who has gone on to award-winning books like “Asperkids: An Insider’s Guide to Loving, Understanding, and Teaching Children with Asperger Syndrome,” it was a no-brainer for creator/executive producer Cian O’Clery to cast her.
