On July 21, 2023, 39-year-old Jacob Schech of Minnesota was charged with murdering his father, 72-year-old Frederick Schech, at their residence in Minnetonka.
CBS News reported that the complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court said Jacob was charged with second-degree premeditated murder.

Kare 11 reported that in the early morning hours of July 19, police arrived at a residence in the 5000 block of Holiday Road, Minnesota, following a call from a downstairs resident about an unresponsive male.
According to the Kara 11 report, upon arrival, emergency services found the woman who filed the report and Jacob Schech at the scene.
CBS News reported that police located Jacob clad only in gym shorts with blood on his hands and right foot. According to responding officers, Jacob did not appear remotely upset or emotional.

Kare 11 reported that police located Frederick Schech lying on the kitchen floor and also found a knife in the kitchen sink that appeared to be bloody.
After an autopsy, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner determined that Frederick sustained multiple blunt-force injuries, including multiple fractures to the skull, face, neck, and ribs, along with bilateral lung contusions and blood in the lungs.
An autopsy also found that he had injuries to his neck and head, and the death was ruled a homicide.

The Star Tribune reported that Jacob has a criminal record that includes a domestic violence conviction for strangulation stemming from an assault on his then-girlfriend at their Plymouth residence in February 2019.
He was sentenced to a prison term of three days and three years with supervised probation.
Jacob Schech allegedly “tortured” his father before the incident
Kare 11 reported that the woman who reported the incident allegedly told authorities that the night before she saw Jacob Schech drinking and harassing his father, Frederick Schech, while he was working at the pool.
According to a Kara 11 report, the 911 caller went to sleep around 8:30 a.m. and heard a loud bang upstairs, which sounded like someone was stomping on him.

According to a CBS News report, the woman asked Jacob Schech where his father was, to which he replied:
“Well, I was going to give her crab legs, and then you know she has to die. And Mom knows she has to die, and she’d let Mom handle it.”
Kare 11 reported that according to court documents, Frederick Schech’s wife called the woman multiple times to ask about Frederick or Jacob because they did not return calls.
Fox 9 reported that Jacob Schech is scheduled to make his first court appearance on July 24, 2023, and if convicted, he could face up to 40 years in prison.
