Legendary CHUM 104.5 host Roger Ashby has confirmed his retirement after an incredible 50 years at the station, as he announced on the air this morning. Ashby’s farewell ceremony will be televised live from the Sheraton Center Toronto Grand Ballroom on Wednesday, December 5 at 5 a.m. ET.
The anniversary program, featuring a number of celebrity guests, will share Ashby’s best stories from his 50 years as a Toronto radio standout.
When you love your job and the people you work with, it’s easier to get out of bed in the morning, says Ashby. Of course, I couldn’t have achieved this without the amazing Marilyn Denis. Me and her clicked right away and I knew she was the one I should spend the morning with. And without the dedication of our dedicated longtime listeners, none of our achievements over the years would be possible.
“Marilyn and Jamar will continue to entertain the people of Toronto every morning on CHUM 104.5 and I look forward to hearing from you,” he added. “Whether they like it or not, I’ll be spending more time with my family and friends,” he continued, “as well as my wife, Moira.”
