France will have its first peak of heat next week, with temperatures above 30°C in the Hexagon, or even 35°C locally, warns Météo-France. “As of Monday, the temperatures will be back above normal for the season”, says Météo-France in a bulletin. “On Tuesday, temperatures will generally be 26 to 30°C on the northern half, 28 to 33°C on the southern half”, with a heat which is particularly marked in the plains of the South-West.

“Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be the three hottest days,” says Météo-France, with the mercury reaching or exceeding the 30°C “on most of the regions”. “We will very often 32 to 34 °C in the South-West to the Ile-de-France and the regions close to the valley of the Rhone,” says Météo-France. “The threshold of the very high temperatures (35 °C) may be exceeded locally.”

spring 2020, second warmest ever recorded

The minimum temperatures can exceed 20°C “in the major metropolitan areas in or on the shores of the mediterranean”, in particular Thursday and Friday.

2019 had been the third warmest year in France – after 2018 and 2014 -, marked by two episodes of exceptional heat wave, and an absolute record of 46°C. 2020 is part of the same trend, with a winter that has been breaking records of softness and a spring which has been the second warmest ever recorded.
