Who Are Éric Sabatier And Virginie Darras? Marina Sabatier Parents

The Marina affair is a legal and administrative matter involving the tragic passing of Marina Sabatier in France on August 7 2009 at the age of eight. In this article, let’s learn more about Marina Sabatier parents.

Marina had been subjected to abuse from both her parents, Virginie Darras and Eric Sabatier, and she had died as a result.

The parents were found guilty of torturing and brutally treating Marina over the course of about six years, which resulted in Marina’s death, and were found guilty in June 2012 by the French department of the Sarthe Court of Assizes.

The parents were sentenced to thirty years in prison without a chance of parole for a total of 20 years.

The pair covered up their abuse of Marina by making repeated false claims about the cause of the girl’s injuries while they were constantly relocating to obstruct investigations.

Marina, like many abused youngsters, remained to love her parents despite everything and never accused them.

Beyond the direct accountability of both parents, serious concerns were raised about the effectiveness and accountability of various public departments in France for abuse of children prevention, which, despite numerous red flags being raised by those who had personal contact with Marina, did not stop the young girl from dying.

Who Are Éric Sabatier And Virginie Darras? Marina Sabatier Parents

Marina Sabatier was the daughter of Virginie Darras and Eric Sabatier. She was born on February 27, 2001, and was put into care.

A month later, her mother, who had previously split up from Eric Sabatie during her pregnancy, reclaimed the kid.

Virginie Darras already had a son from a previous relationship, and after Marina was born, she went on to have a total of 4 more kids with Eric Sabatier.

Marina was likely the victim of violence from a young age. Since she was about a year old, Marina has reportedly had a twisted finger caused by a tumble from her high chair.

Marina endured years of abuse until that fateful night in August 2009. The other kids in the family were not subjected to this torture; only Marina had to endure brutal and inhumane treatment.

Marina Sabatier’s parents often beat her with kicking, punching, belts, and iron rods.

They also subjected her to countless other cruelties like taking cold showers, having her head held under the water in the bathtub, being made to eat vomit, salt, and vinegar, and starving her for days on end.

In recent days, Marina Sabatier’s parents have been serving their punishment behind bars. No matter what form the abuse takes, it is never okay, and no one deserves to be treated that way.

Marina Sabatier Parents Trial: Murder Case Update

The mother and father of Marina were on trial from June 11 to June 26, 2012, at the Sarthe region’s Court of Assizes.

A first for this kind of trial, four of France’s most significant child protection organizations provided assistance (more specifically, under French law because, according to the attorney for one of them, this outstanding trial had to be exemplary.)

Many witnesses were questioned to better understand how the institutions handled Marina’s case.

For acts of abuse and brutality that resulted in the murder of their 8-year-old child in 2009, both parents were sentenced to 30 years in jail on June 26, without a chance of parole for a period of 20 years.

Following the parents’ trial, a number of organizations declared their plan to file lawsuits to address the functions of the state’s services and suggest reforms to increase child protection.

The idea was to have two Marinas—a “before” Marina Sabatier and an “after” Marina Sabatier.

On November 18, 2012, this movement also manifested as a somber march in Paris in memory of Marina.

The message conveyed by this incident was the indictment of a working procedure inside the child protection agencies that led to Marina’s murder as well as the children who were wrongfully taken into care.
