In an unusual development in Maharashtra’s Washim district, a buffalo inadvertently became the center of attention when it swallowed a woman’s 25g gold mangalsutra, valued at Rs 1.5 lakh. After identifying a buffalo as the culprit, the family resorted to surgery on the animal to retrieve the lost jewelry.

ANI shared a video of the incident on X. In the headline of the post, ANI wrote, “The incident of buffalo eating golden mangalsutra came to light in a village in Washim district. 25 grams of Mangalsutra was recovered during the operation.”
Veterinary officer Balasaheb Kaundane, who operated on the buffalo, told ANI, “A metal detector revealed that there was some metal in the buffalo’s stomach. The operation took 2 hours, requiring 60-65 stitches.” He also urged people to be extremely careful when feeding animals.
Additionally, ANI shared a video where a woman can be seen next to a buffalo. She is also holding her mangalsutra in her hand.

Earlier, a similar incident took place in Haryana when a bull ate about 40 grams of gold. Several members of the family took out their gold ornaments and kept them in a bowl. Unknowingly, someone filled a bowl with plant waste and threw it out thinking it was kitchen waste. This valuable ‘waste’ was then eaten by a stray bull.
The family discovered that the bull had eaten the decorations when they checked the CCTV footage of their home. It took them almost five hours to find the bull. They later returned him to their home and hoped they could get him out of the dunghill.
