Steam Deck simply gives you access to your library of Steam titles and can handle all but the most demanding games, but sometimes that’s not enough. Enter Xbox Game Pass, a subscription service packed with games from Microsoft, most of which are available to play on both Xbox and PC.
That compatibility also means there’s a way to play the latest hits on Game Pass like hello infinity or next star field on your Steam Deck, wherever you are. All that is required is the correct placement. We’ll show you exactly what you need and what you need to do.
How to enable Xbox Game Pass games on your Steam Deck
While it may seem obvious, remember that you must be signed into Steam and have an active Xbox Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate subscription for these steps to work.
Step 1 – This is much easier if you have time to connect your Steam Deck to your mouse and keyboard before you begin. We recommend sitting at a desk to make this step easier.
Step 2 – While your Steam Deck is on, press the center button Steam button. When the menu opens, select Forcethen select switch to desktop. This will switch to Linux working mode, allowing more direct control over a wide range of settings (you don’t need to connect the Deck to an actual desktop monitor for this to work).
Step 3 – Look at the button taskbar and select the icon that looks like a blue shopping bag. This will open it Discover the Software Center. In the software center, find the “hamburger” button with three lines and select it, then select Applicationsthen go to Internet section and then find web browsers.
Step 4: In the list of available web browsers, find microsoft edge (It’s currently in beta on Deck, but don’t let that stop you.) Select or right-click and select Install.
Step 5: Now go back to the Steam desktop. Choose application launcher this time from the taskbar. choose Internetthen search Microsoft Edge (beta). Right click and select Add to Steam. Now in add a game window locate microsoft edge one more time and select Add Selected Programs button at the bottom.
Step 6: Go back to the desktop and select Launch of the application again. This time choose Systemand then select consoles to open a terminal window. It’s time to write some commands! Enter this command and press input key after:
flatpak –user override –filesystem=/run/udev:ro com.microsoft.Edge
To exit Konsole, type “Exit” and select input key.
Step 7: Go back to the desktop, select Steam icon to open Steam. go for your thing Librarythen search Microsoft Edge (beta) here. Right click and select Properties. Here you will make several important changes.
First, choose a name microsoft edge next to your icon and change it to Xbox Cloud Gaming. You might want to add (beta) to the end to remind yourself that it’s still a work in progress, although the Edge icon has its own beta tag to help.
Go boot options, where you will see the command prompt. You’ll want to keep the section that says “e @@u @”, but replace everything after it with the new command:
–window-size=1024,640 –force-device-scale-factor=1.25 –device-scale-factor=1.25 –kiosk “https://www .xbox.com/play”
This basically makes Edge Xbox Cloud Gaming, a somewhat complicated solution that Microsoft plans to improve in the future, but will work for now. Just remember that the Edge icon is actually your access to Xbox games. Technically, you can replace the icon with a different image, but that’s a lot of work for a feature that will hopefully be replaced at some point in the future, so it’s okay to leave it at that.
Step 8 – You can also choose to manage your new Xbox Cloud Gaming app controller layout in your Steam library, so make sure you set it to the layout you like to play Xbox games with by right-clicking and then selecting Govern and controller layout.
Step 9: That should be it! come back to yours Game modeand you should be able to select the Xbox Cloud Gaming icon and sign in with your Microsoft account to get started.
