Death of Louis Gumpenberger
A few months after Russ Faria was acquitted, Pam Hupp began searching for her next victim in an attempt to get rid of Russ once and for all. She planned another murder and got close to Carol Alford, Russ’s current fiancée. However, she did not go according to plan. But a week later, she took the life of Louis Gumpenberger.
Louis passed away on August 16, 2016.
She lured Louisa into her home by posing as a Dateline producer who needed someone to help her with a scene. She offered him cash to repeat the 911 calls. Pam shot Louis, claiming that Russ had sent him to kidnap her.
$900 was found on his body along with a note instructing him to “kidnap Hupp, take Russ’s money from Hupp at his bank, and kill Hupp” and “take Hupp back to the house and dispose of her.” She make her look like Russ’s wife. Make sure the knife sticks out the door.” for a $10,000 reward.
Tim Lohmar, the St. Charles district attorney, charged her with murder and said he would seek the death penalty.
Pam went on trial for the Gumpenberger murder in June 2019. She pleaded guilty to Alford, meaning she admitted that prosecutors had enough evidence to charge her with Gumpenberger’s murder, but pleaded not guilty. After that, Lohmar agreed to waive the death penalty in exchange for life in prison.

Wife of Louis Gumpenberger
Louis Gumpenberger left two children at the time of his death. He had a son named Trevelyan Lloyd Gumpenberger who is at least 15 years old. Trevelyan was deeply affected by the death of his father. Louis’s mother said that Trevelyan was still having nightmares. She said: “He’s afraid to go to school or spend the night with a friend because he’s afraid that when he comes home he won’t be here anymore.”
There is no information on Trevelyan’s mother, but according to Facebook activity, she was the sister of Candie Herndon and the daughter of Tammy Herndon.

Louis Gumpenberger’s disability

His mother, Margaret Burch, revealed that her life was “devastated” and a “disaster” nearly two years after Louis’ death. She said: “My life was hell. I think of my son every day.”
Also, Margaret believed that she would use the money Pam offered her to pay off the family debt. She said: “Louis died trying to take care of his family.”
In July 2020, Margaret won a $3 million judgment in a wrongful death lawsuit. She told the court that Louis’s son looks just like him and that “it’s strange that his father can’t pamper him anymore.”
