Although Olivia Chow remains ahead in the race for mayor of Toronto, a new poll shows support is shifting to another candidate. According to a Mainstreet Research poll released Friday, Chow remains the top choice among registered voters for the city’s top job, with 30% of the vote.
Ana Bailao came in second with 21% of the vote, up 6 percentage points from last week’s poll. With 14%, Matlow is in third place and four points above the previous survey. Mitzie Hunter and Mark Saunders finished the top five.
Saunders’ support rate dropped from 12% to 10%, while Hunter’s percentage remained the same. They are followed by Anthony Furey (seven per cent), Brad Bradford (four per cent) and Chloe Brown (two per cent). According to the report, 26% of respondents are still uncertain about the next mayor.
The latest statistics come days after the Daily Bread Food Bank’s first televised mayoral debate. Most respondents when asked how confident they were that their mayoral candidate would win said they were very confident.
However, they differ in their degree of confidence that Toronto will be on the right track under the leadership of the next mayor, whoever that person may be. People still have more than a month to convince voters to choose their next mayoral candidate.
