The dog days of winter are upon us, but the fun at the multiplex is still going on. Leftovers from 2022. like Avatar: The Way of Water, A man named Ottoand Puss in Boots: The Last Wish they’re still going strong, and the newer fare is like a hit horror comedy M3GAN and a sicko sci-fi movie Infinity pool they delight and shock the audience at the same time.
February has an even stronger offer of quality movies on the big screen and at home. From the elegant thriller about sex, power and money (Sharper) to the latest MCU blockbuster, there’s something for everyone this month. Here are six movies you should keep an eye out for and watch.
Knock at the Hut (February 3)

A lot of time has passed since 2021 Old, M. Night Shyamalan’s last film, which featured the terrifying premise of a group of people rapidly aging without explanation. Shyamalan loves to scare people, and this month he’s back with another mid-budget horror film that’s sure to unsettle viewers. In this one, the premise is simple: a young family (two fathers and a girl) decides to vacation in a remote cabin in the forest. They are soon visited and quickly captured by four people who claim they must kill one of them to prevent the apocalypse.
Adaptation of the award-winning horror novel by Paul Tremblay. The cabin at the end of the world, the film has all the hallmarks of a good Shyamalan film: an isolated location, a high-concept premise, and an ending that few will see. The film’s cast, which includes glass bowis Dave Bautista, HamiltonJonathan Groff and Rupert Grint’s Harry Potter is intriguing, and if it can live up to the ominous trailer, Knock on the cabin can join The sixth sense and Division as one of Shyamalan’s best works. If not, well, it can’t be as bad as that Happening, Is it? Law?

We here at Digital Trends love horror movies, and we especially love the ones that are off the radar and a little cheesy and cheesy. Consecration, Christopher Smith’s new film, seems to fit the bill. Young Nun (Jena Malone, who will forever be iconic because of the bloodbath at the end The neon demon) goes to a secluded monastery on the Isle of Skye to investigate her brother’s mysterious, self-inflicted death. Would anyone be surprised to discover that something more than just suicide is going on?
For a B movie, the cast is impressive. In addition to Malone, there are also veteran character actor Danny Huston in the role of the suspicious priest and Janet Suzman, the English actress who was nominated for an Oscar in 1971. Nikola and Aleksandra, creeps like a menacing chieftain. The movie might not win any points for originality (we’ve already seen the shadowy monasteries), but who can resist the image of Malone in bloody monk’s garb standing on an altar?
Sharper (February 10)

The 1990s were a golden age for stylish thrillers featuring dangerous women, desperate men and impeccably designed apartments. Drawing on the spirit of trashy classics such as Disclosure and a hint, Sharper (even the title sounds derivative!) is about the power struggle between Madeline (Julianne Moore), a woman recently married to the wealthy Richard (John Lithgow), and Max (Sebastian Stan), her dead son. Max wants a piece of his mother’s marital fortune, so he hatches a plan that involves a mysterious woman (Brianna Middleton), Richard’s estranged son (Justice Smith), and a laundry list of crimes and misdemeanors.
The movie, which premieres on Apple TV+ on February 10, looks like a lot of fun. It’s always a pleasure to see rich people being mean to each other, and the New York locations look suitably polished and ambitious. Sharper directed by Benjamin Caron, who knows how to make something look good (Crown) and energetic (Sherlock), but its main selling point is Moore, who gets another lead role that can make you sick.

One of the most underrated characters in the entire MCU is Ant-Man. As embodied by the endlessly charming and seemingly eternal Paul Rudd, Scott Lang is a true everyman who just did his best while standing next to literal gods and monsters. Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania sees our favorite shrinking hero leave his low-stakes solo adventures (fate is the word not hanging by a thread in the last) to travel to the Quantumverse, a mostly CG dimension that exists between atoms and served as a deus ex machina in Avengers: Endgame. In this microverse, various ant-men, wasps, and statures (those who know, know) battle against Kang, the time-traveling villain first seen in the Disney+ series Loki.
Unlike the first two Ant-Man movies, quantum mania promises to have dramatic ramifications for the MCU going forward. As the first film in Phase Five, the film hopes to establish Jonathan Majors’ Kang as a Thanos-level threat to appear in future films, including the next two the Avengers movies. If the two trailers are any indication, quantum mania it also promises an end to Paul Rudd’s sarcastic take on the character, which doesn’t seem intact. Tell us we’re skeptical, or just hopeful, that’s not the case, and Rudd’s working-class hero will live to see another day.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (February 17)

No, you’re not experiencing decades-old déjà vu. One of the best movies to hit theaters in 2023 was actually first released in 2000. Ang Lee’s masterful wuxia (martial hero) epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is being republished this month. It’s a rare opportunity to see this film, which was nominated for 10 Oscars and broke the barrier for foreign language films to connect with a wide American audience, on the big screen.
Few films live up to their legend, but Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon works. This is largely due to Lee, who directed an action film of stunning beauty and rare depth. Credit should also be given to Tan Dun’s excellent score and Peter Pau’s incredible camerawork, both of whom won Oscars for their hard work. Last but not least, lead actors Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh give this film heart and soul, making their characters both specific and timeless. It deserves to be seen on the big screen.
Cocaine Bear (February 24)

There are some movies that have such intricate plots and themes, they need to be marketed carefully (I’m looking at you, Infinity pool). And there are movies like Cocaine bear, which doesn’t need any further explanation other than the crude title. It’s a movie about a bear that accidentally swallows a bag full of cocaine. That’s it, that’s the movie.
This is no Snakes on the plane however, because there is enough talent in front of and behind the camera to make one optimistic that this could be a fun comedy jam. The trailer looks suitably crazy, with an eclectic cast of actors (Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ray Liotta, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Margo Martindale) fighting either each other or the titular drugged-up animal. Pitch Perfect 2The film’s Elizabeth Banks directed the film and seems to have found the right tone for the film. Believe it or not, Cocaine Bear is actually based on a true story.
