Discover the stories of some of history’s most notable women and learn about new books that realistically portray women in this refreshingly honest yet funny podcast. Hosts Misty Wilson-Mehrtens and Allegra Davis Hanna are two faculty members who take their chosen topic very seriously — but still have plenty of humor and banter to make this a fun listen. There are 50 episodes to date, each lasting about an hour, making this the perfect podcast for your morning commute or after-work listening. Our favorite episodes so far are the episode about famous women in internet history and the one about cults.

Not only is this a brilliant podcast about extraordinary women, but it will keep you busy for quite some time, with over 90 episodes to work your way through. Hosted and produced by academic sisters Olivia Meikle and Katie Nelson, each episode dives deep into forgotten history, telling the stories of women left out of the history books — inspiring women you’ve never heard of but should have, like composer Florence Price, the first black a woman whose work was performed by large orchestras. Along the way, Meikle and Nelson talk with guests including writers, scholars and historians to paint a fascinating picture of these “lost” women and their contributions to our history. As funny as it is provocative and insightful, this is a must-listen for Women’s History Month.
The History Extra podcast isn’t just about women throughout history, there are plenty of great episodes covering the stories of strong, inspiring women — including episodes about the big issues in women’s history.
