This reservist soldier from the 40th Artillery Regiment was fatally wounded in the head.
A French soldier, reservist of the 40th Artillery Regiment, died on the night of Wednesday to Thursday in an accidental shot, the Army Chief of Staff announced Thursday. Alexis Beat, 20-year-old first class, was a reservist in this regiment, on guard duty at the military governor’s palace in Metz.

“Involved with his group to protect the palace of the military governor of Metz since June 18, 2020, he was preparing to patrol when he was seriously injured by a shot to the head,” according to a statement from the Army General Staff. With help, he was transported to a hospital in Nancy, where he died of his injuries.

“Deeply saddened by the unfortunate death in the night of 1 CL Alexis BEAT, 40th RA reservist, on duty at the military governor’s palace in Metz. I assure his family and colleagues of my full support and that of his colleagues,” the army chief of staff said on Twitter.
