Dennis Garcia played “José Torres” on the Chicago Police Department. He was introduced in season 8, episode 4, titled “Unforgiven”, after the intelligence service investigated the murder of police officer Mike Blaine. The investigation then led them to a woman named Maria, who claimed that Mike was protecting her from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Jose Torres.
That! Dennis’s character was once a murder suspect.
So, after Officer Halstead and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) tried to arrest him, Jose took a bystander hostage. However, the attempt to escape from him was unsuccessful and the epic ended with his arrest and imprisonment for the murder of police officer Blaine.
However, in the next season, José is seen wearing a police uniform and working with the exact same detectives who arrested him. That meant the Chicago Police Department had a lot to unpack and tell the story of how José Torres went from criminal to crime fighter.
Especially since Halstead and Upton assured Maria that Jose would be behind bars “for a long time,” something definitely big had to happen in a relatively short amount of time.
Career of actor Dennis Garcia
Dennis Garcia began his career in 2004 as Jared in the short film Drag Queen Heist. Two years later, he appeared as “the guy from Tijuana” in 2.4. epic. Mind of Mencía (2006).
Fast forward to 2013, Dennis then returned to the small screen as “Trevor” in Jaded the Series and the following year he played “Quique” in Barrio Boy (2014).
Finally, in 2017, Dennis landed his first role in the One Chicago universe as “Santiago Mendoza” in the Chicago Justice episode “Lily’s Law”. The following year, he went on to play “Camera” in the Chicago Med episode “This Is Now.”
Additionally, Dennis appears to have previously appeared in Chicago Police Season 6 Ep 1 as a “police officer in uniform”.
In addition to movies and TV shows, Dennis has also acquired numerous stage productions, including Teatro Vista, Urban Theater Company, Raška Theater Company, Pegasus Theater Company, and Shattered Globe Theatre.
Speaking of his grades, Dennis graduated from Columbia College Chicago and later studied under Sanford Meisner alumnus John Ruskin at The Ruskin School of Acting in Santa Monica. She is also a graduate of the South Coast Conservatory of Repertory in Costa Mesa.
After graduation, Dennis went on to work with the Odyssey Theater Ensemble for over 2 years and also took on an administrative/accounting job at The Sports Club/LA for over 10 years.
The last time we saw him, he was working as a coach/advisor at the Performing Arts Studio.
Fun fact: Dennis saved the day when Kristina Dalton was doing her tricks to find a spot for her latest required restaurant photo shoot for Ferrarelle 2020. He took them to Lincoln Center and set them up on the perfect “fake date.”
