The Larchmont Public Library in New York announced on Facebook that one of their books has been returned after 90 years. Yes, you read that right. Since this news was shared on Facebook, it caught the attention of many people. Moreover, you will be shocked to know the late fees for this book.

“We recently received an interesting package sent here from Virginia. Inside was a library book that was supposed to arrive on October 11, 1933, a month ago 90 years ago. The book, ‘Youth and Two Other Stories,’ by Joseph Conrad, was published in 1925. Now, I know what you’re all thinking; I wonder how much that would be in outstanding fees. At twenty cents a day, it seems like the fine could have easily reached over $6,400. But no, the real answer is only $5!” written by Larchmont Public Library. The library further added, “When a library book is not returned after 30 days, it is considered ‘lost’ and the patron is charged the original price of the book. However, when the book is returned, it is returned for a maximum fine of five dollars. Regardless of that’s how long Larchmont Public Library books are overdue, if returned, the maximum fine is a whopping five dollars. Thanks to Joanie Morgan who discovered the book among her stepfather’s belongings, it is now being returned to the Larchmont Library.”
