News about Andres Gimenez

Over the past two and a half seasons, Amed Rosario has served as a reliable two-hole hitter for the Cleveland Guardians. He was a streaky hitter who caught a lot of pitches, but when he warmed up, he could be effective.

After Cleveland traded Rosrai to the Los Angeles Dodgers last week, the Guardians needed someone to step up and take over this position. Andres Gimenez proved to be the ideal choice. He can make great contact with the ball and sees a lot of throws. Earlier in the season, even while Rosario was still on the roster, fans were pushing Terry Francona to bat second. Gimenez is now in this position for us, and, well, it hasn’t been fantastic.

Since Rosario was traded, five games have been played, with Andres finishing second in all of them. In those few games, Gimenez has appeared 23 times and has a slash line of .100/.217/.150. Despite the fact that he only had two hits, there is another worrying aspect. Gimenez has a 39.1 percent strikeout rate and an 8.7 percent walk rate. The batting average he managed to put on the plate is just .182.

Gimenez deserves more time to show he can be a successful two-hole bat as this is an extremely limited sample size. If those struggles continue, it wouldn’t be unexpected if Tyler Freeman or Will Brennan get a chance.
