On the show, she reflected on her life from the perspective of her closest relatives. This is how Anthony Caruana, Sarma’s friend for more than a decade, appeared.
Anthony and Sarma first met when the Bad Vegan star adopted his adorable American pit bull, Leon. It was a seemingly normal day, when Sarma took Leon for a walk and accidentally ran into a homeless man who turned out to be Anthony. The two then instantly connected and opened up about their lives: who they were and why they chose to do so.
According to Anthony, Sarmi told her he was homeless and she invited him to her restaurant for lunch without hesitation. Furthermore, she even allowed him to keep her clothes in her apartment for months.
It was a kind but also a brave move for Sarma to let a homeless man use his apartment. But then again, Anthony said that he promised her that he would always protect her. “She put something in my heart that no one else ever did. I can’t explain it, I just can’t explain it… He’s not asking me to try,” Anthony explained.
Furthermore, this homeless man even admitted that Sarma and his dog Leon are the only two loves in his life.
Unfortunately, Sarma fell in love with the wrong person. Supposedly, her ex-husband Anthony Strangis manipulated her into loaning him huge amounts of money that he never repaid.
Furthermore, Anthony Strangis appears to have convinced the restaurant owner that she will be “empowered in ways that (she) couldn’t have imagined.” He made her dream of all the “things that change the world” only to betray her later.
