Apple plans to cut emissions 75% by 2030, while developing “innovative decarbonization solutions” for the remaining 25% of its footprint.

Apple on Tuesday committed to going carbon neutral by 2030 and all of its operations, including its supply chain, in further preparedness to combat climate change. The tech giant, which is already carbon neutral for its operations, says in a press release that this decision means that all of its devices sold do not have that deadline, they have no impact on the climate.

As part of an update to its environmental policy, Apple says it plans to cut emissions 75% by 2030, while developing “innovative decarbonization solutions” for the remaining 25% of its total footprint. These include investments in savannah restoration projects in Kenya, as well as investments in a mangrove ecosystem in Colombia to remove or store carbon.

“New era of innovation”

“Businesses have a great opportunity to help build a more sustainable future,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said, noting that the group shares a “common desire” to achieve it. “Climate measures can be the foundation of a new era of innovation, job creation and sustainable economic growth,” he added.

The group has also committed that more than 70 of its suppliers will use 100% renewable energy for Apple production. As part of this effort, Apple will also create a fund called “accelerator” that will invest in minority-owned businesses to promote racial equality and justice.
