Asus’ 4K, 32-inch mini-LED gaming monitor might hit the perfect sweet spot

Asus has released another category-shaking gaming monitor at CES 2023 called the Asus ROG Swift PG32UQXR that features DisplayPort 2.1, 4K resolution and a large screen size.

Making waves and competing with the best gaming monitors at CES 2023 is what Asus seems focused on this year. First, he showed off the totally crazy-I-really-need-to-just-because 540Hz ROG Swift Pro PG248QP — his highest refresh rate monitor yet.

After that is the relatively more subdued Asus ROG Swift PG32UQXR — instead it clocks at 160Hz, which is still very nice, but where it shines (literally and figuratively) is its 3840 x 2160 resolution on mini-LEDs. The ROG Swift PG248QP makes do with an esports TN (E-TN) panel, and it also comes in smaller dimensions, at 24 inches versus 32 inches for the PG32UQXR.

Asus says the PG32UQXR has 576 separate mini-LED backlight zones, pushing a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, while complying with (but not officially certified to) VESA DisplayHDR 1000 standards. For creatives, the monitor has a strong 95% DCI-P3 and 10-bit color depth with <2 Delta E color deviation.

Another notable feature of the Asus ROG Swift PG32UQXR is that it has two DisplayPort 2.1 ports for a peak throughput of nearly 80 Gbps each. There’s still some debate as to whether average users can tell the difference between visually lossless technology like Display Stream Compression (DSC) found on DP 1.4 versus uncompressed DP 2.1, but the latter monitor is future-proofed to accommodate GPUs higher throughput. The monitor also has a USB hub, but there are no specification details on it.

There’s also no pricing or availability announced yet, but we can expect that to come over the next few months.
