Austin Li Coon on Survivor 45
Austin Li Coon is one of the Survivor 45 contestants.
The historic 45th season of the veteran reality series will retain the format known as “New Era” for the past few years. The three tribes make up the starting group of 18 players. During 26 days, they will embark on dangerous journeys, engage in “mergatorium” and rice trade, and participate in a competition for social, tactical and physical dominance. Their occupations range from truck drivers to singers to civil rights lawyers.
The first player back in the new era is Bruce Perreault, who gets another shot despite playing just one day in Season 44, making seventeen of them new to the game. But no matter where they’re from or how much experience they have, everyone wants to win the game and be the last one standing when it’s over.
Austin shared that his Survivor journey started with his mom. He added: “She’s been watching since the very first episode. And that showed up when I was four years old. But then I didn’t really like reality TV, I didn’t really watch it Survived.”
He added: “I came back one day. I said, “Man, that’s kind of sad. I should just sit and watch it.” And I was immediately hooked. I said, “This is so great.” So I just drank it all. And we write about it every day Survived strategies; we call all the time. This whole process of coming here was like a shared dream. That’s really what brought me here.”
Austin added that he has been training for this for years. He fasted for 60 hours. He also exercised twice a day.
About his preparations, he added further, “A few years ago, when my dream was on Survived was at its peak, I went on a 230 mile backpacking trip on the John Muir Trail. So I started at the base of Yosemite, climbed to the top of Half Dome, and then backpacked 40 pounds on my back 230 miles to Mount Whitney, and climbed it. And I was thinking about it all the time Survivedto win it.”
Austin believes he’s a lot more “sensitive and empathetic for someone who might look like me and big and strong and stuff.” But this is also a disadvantage for him. “Because the only thing I’m really nervous about is getting really really connected with people and then having to cut them off. I already thought it would be heartbreaking if my tribe lost first immunity and we had to vote someone out. It’s something I don’t think I can be ready for. I just have to be ready to pull it back when the time comes. And I hope I can; I think I can. But we’ll see.”

Austin Li Coon is currently in a relationship with his girlfriend Jessica Gingerich. They’ve been dating since at least 2018. In May 2018, he posted: “Sometimes (most of the time) I don’t realize how I’m dressed until it’s too late and I’ve already left my apartment… but she’s still holding my hand.”
Later in August of that year, he added, “She drove from Indiana to Chicago at 5 in the morning and flew to DC to help me clean and move into my new apartment… The least I could do was give her some love right away. Thanks for letting me be lazy 😍.”
