Chantelle and Kasia on Bake Off: Professionals 2023

Channel 4’s Bake Off: The Professionals 2023 is here and the show is again judged by Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden. Likewise, Liam Charles and not-so-new face Ellie Taylor hosted this season as well.

Chantelle and Kasia, one of the contestants this season, captained the team who came from the 5 star Glenapp Castle Hotel in Ayrshire. They believed their combined experiences would help them take first place in this year’s competition and emerge as the show’s first all-female winning team.

“Chantelle landed in Ayrshire after spending time honing her craft alongside Gary Rhodes OBE, on cruise ships and in exotic destinations such as Antigua, Seychelles, Casablanca and St Lucia. In the colder climate of Scotland, she met teammate and avid cyclist Kasia,” read their official Bake Off biography.

Other contestants who joined Chantelle and Kasia were:

Andrew and Raf from Harwoods Patisserie. The former was a volunteer firefighter who launched Harwoods Patisserie in 2020 after a 15-year career in kitchens, while Latte first began his career at London restaurant The Wolseley.

Annie and Subin of Dorchester. They were co-workers who had met only a year before at The Dorchester Hotel in London.

Caroline and Martin by Bisous Bisous. Caroline is a keen yogi who loved making her own clothes from scratch and has over 10 years of experience at establishments such as Phillippe Conticini’s La Pâtisserie des Rêves, Roland Garros, Balthazar, The Soho Hotel and The Beaumont Hotel. On the other hand, her friend Martin is relatively new to the baking world — he traded his life in finance for the kitchen during the Covid pandemic.

Mustapha and Tracy: Taekwondo black belt and demi chef de partie/former aeronautics student.

Margo and Ally from Lexington Catering. Both are members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Martyn and Jenny: Martyn, who has a 15-year career in the hospitality industry, hired Jenny to be his pastry chef.

Mauro and Daniel: They met at the 5-star hotel The Landmark London.

Naira and Andrea: They first met while the latter was attending one of Naira’s baking classes. Now they each run their own independent specialty cake business from home

Mayank and Dharma: Friends from India and Nepal.

Nicoletta and Georgina: Nicoletta completed her training in the best patisserie schools in her country and worked in 5-star establishments. In contrast, Georgina comes from five generations of farmers with no experience whatsoever.

Career of Chantelle and Kasia

Chantelle and Kasia worked at the 5 star Glenapp Castle Hotel in Ayrshire.

“As you clear the long tree-lined road, you will see the beautiful facade of Glenapp Castle; summing up the romance of the Scottish baronial style with its magical turrets, spiers and pinnacles. Once you step into our luxurious 5-star castle hotel, a world of Victorian splendor is yours,” reads the hotel bio.

If you are interested, the castle and the surrounding estate have a rich history. Glenapp Estate was already well established under the ownership of the Earl of Orkney when the industrialist James Hunter (later Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire) bought it and in 1870 commissioned the famous Edinburgh architect David Bryce to design a suitably grand home for him. In 1917 the castle then passed to James Lyle Mackay, the son of a wealthy shipowner, before his daughter Elsie tragically deposed him. In 1928, she even set out to fly across the Atlantic in a single-engine monoplane and was never seen again.

As for their education, although we don’t know about Chantelle, Kasia attended West Lothian College, Pomeranian University Słupsk and 4th Secondary School.

Besides being professional chefs, Chantelle and Kasia are now reality stars, thanks to their participation in Bake Off: The Professionals 2023.

For those who missed the first week of the show, here’s a recap. Teams of professional chefs were asked to create 36 opera aux fruits and a chocolate amenity, followed by a reimagining of banoffee pie. Unfortunately, Martyn and Jenny’s cake was a disaster and they were sent home. On the contrary, Andrew and Raf beat the competition and came out on top.
