Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin is scheduled to travel to Bayonne on Saturday to discuss security in the city with state officials and then meet with drivers and public transport unions.

Transport Minister Jean-Baptiste Djebbari traveled on Tuesday night and spoke with drivers of the Bayonne agglomeration transport network called Chronoplus. The drivers, who exercised their right to quit smoking after the assault on a colleague, will continue working on Monday “in conditions of greater security,” the transport operator Keolis announced on Friday.

“John Monguillot has left us. He succumbed to a barbaric aggressor in the exercise of his profession. Faithful public servant, he leaves the image of a generous man. I support his colleagues in their efforts. Our condolences to his wife and family in mourning”, replied the mayor of Bayonne, Jean-René Etchegaray, on Twitter.
