In a Facebook post, staff at the retail branch in Forster Square, Bradford, revealed it will be closing on Thursday, August 31.

The emotional post read: “It is with heavy hearts that we have to say goodbye to an amazing city and community that has welcomed us with open arms from day one.

‘We have made some truly special friends, both four-legged and two-legged, and we are very sad to say goodbye.

“It was truly an honor to help and support our pets, whether it was finding the perfect food for fussy tummies or getting their coat just right.

“I can assure you that this decision was not easy and it was not taken lightly, but due to a number of factors we have to say goodbye to Bradford Forster Square.”

Until then, the site will remain open and work normally.

Pets At Home has more than 450 stores nationwide and sells a variety of supplies for pets and small animals, including hamsters and rabbits.

The chain recently revealed plans to open 40 new stores over the next five years.

The list of locations is yet to be finalised, but Pets at Home told the Sun that most would be within the M25 and in urban areas.

It opened two new branches and refurbished nine of its stores in the first half of this year, including stores in Spalding and Leeds.

Other store closings

Rising inflation has left shoppers cash-strapped and retailers are scrambling to get shoppers to part with their hard-earned cash.

High energy costs and the shift to online shopping are also taking their toll and many brands simply couldn’t keep up.

Supermarket chain Iceland has closed 13 supermarkets so far this year, with more to come.

Iceland will close its stores in Crewe and Birkenhead in the next few weeks.

While Tesco is set to permanently close one of its stores within weeks after axing its discount chain.

Wilko fell into administration earlier this month after failing to find new backers for the business.

This puts 400 of the chain’s stores at risk of closure and around 12,500 jobs at risk.

But another last-minute bid to rescue the ailing business has since been received by private equity firm M2 Capital.

Meanwhile, Boots is set to close 300 stores across the country over the next year.

Although Boots has not confirmed the exact location of all, those to close are said to be stores close to another location.
