He rose to prominence competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight division, where he is the former UFC flyweight champion and current interim UFC flyweight champion. In April 2011, he made his professional MMA debut in his native Mexico, and would later make his WMA debut in 2014, where he would eventually win the flyweight championship.
